Beyond the form.The tropical intelligence of the Oscar Niemeyer’s Casa das Canoas

The Oscar Niemeyer’s Casa das Canoas is considered as one of the most significant examples of Brazilian architecture. Has an important role in the history of modern architecture because of the delicacy and originality of its sinuous lines. The paper posits that it should be further recognized for its intelligence, conceptual innovation and rootedness to the specific situation of the climate, nature and culture of Rio de Janeiro. Multifocal analysis of the work was accomplished, studying in detail the original drawings and sketches, physically and climatically living inside and outside spatiality, making a series of architectural promenades in situ for a whole day and a photo essay.
